From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)This commerical pilot was operating under 14 CFR part 135 on a cargo flight in visual meteorological conditions. During his takeoff roll a deer ran across the runway in his path. The pilot initiated the rotation early to avoid hitting the deer without success. The deer was struck by the right main gear assembly which resulted in a broken scissor link that allowed the lower half of the gear to depart the aircraft. The flight continued on to maf with the gear down, where the pilot confirmed the right gear as missing, with help from the tower. The pilot retracted the nose and left main gear and landed on 16L. The aircraft skidded for 1500 ft and came to a rest on the runway. The pilot exited the aircraft unharmed. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the right wing spar and belly. We plan to make a safety recommendation to install a deer proof fence around the airport in alpine. This investigation is closed.
