From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) A/c crashed shortly after takeoff from falbrook airport (L18). Witnesses reported that the engine quit running, and the propellor was not turning. It appeared that the pilot tried to extend emergency glide to clear nearby high tension electrical wires. The a/c stalled, pitched over nose down, and struck the ground. The a/c bounced forward approx. thirty feet, before it came to its final resting point with the fuselage inverted. The owner/operator (PIC) was killed as a result. The surviving passenger was airlifted to a hosp[ital with serious injuries. The a/c was destroyed. The cause of the power loss is still under investigaion. The engine is being shipped to the manufacturer's factory mobile, Alabama for further evaluation and testing.
