From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)After landing from tne concusion of a 3 leg dual cross country flight with a student, and after clearing the runway, the engine quit. The student pilot attempted the restart with no success, then the instructor (PIC) attempted the restart with no success. The student was told to contact the tower for tow assistance, during which heavy smoke and flames were observed coming from the engine compartment. The aircraft was evacuated and fty fire department crews arrived and put out the fire. There were no injuries and minor damage to the aircraft. Fire originated in the updraft carburetor area most likely due to several unsuccessful start attempts that caused fuel to accumulate and to be ignited by the hot engine.

As the FAA filed it
