From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Saturday, October 14, 2000, during climb out from Buffalo niagara international airport (buf), a B-727-225, operated by delta airlines as flight 875, experienced the number 2 engine start valve "open" light illuminating. The crew retarded power to "idle" per the checklist. The valve light extinguished per the checklist and the number 2 engine was shut down. There were no abnormal indications prior to shutdown. The aircraft returned to buf, landed and taxied to the ramp and deplaned the passengers without further incident. Company maintenance arrived and changed the start valve and pressure switch. They ran the engine, checked the "chip" detector and strainer and found them to be ok. They replaced the filter and performed a windmill check and then a high power run. The start valve operated normally. The aircraft was returned to service. This incident is considered closed.
