What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Airplane experienced an engine failure during cruise. Engine had an adequate supply of oil and fuel. Owner/pilot was flying and stated there was no indication of engine problems. The airplane had an annual inspection in March 2000. Engine failed at 2500 MSL approx. 10 miles south of the Hilo airport. Landed in a vacant field. Due to the rocky terrain, the airplane was slightly damaged to the landing gear and left wingtip. Owner has not removed the engine for inspection. When an engine inspection is completed, the owner will provide a detailed finding to this office.
