From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 6/10/01, at approximately 1350 EDT, Mr. Tome initiated a freefall parachute jump over Laurel Airport, Laurel, Delaware, with two other parachutists. Eyewitnesses stated that it appeared that Mr. Tome's main parachute failed to totally deploy and that Mr. Tome attempted but was unable to make it deploy properly. He attempted to deploy his reserve parachute, but that became entangled with the partially deployed main parachute. Mr. Tome impacted the ground feet first in a vertical position. He was declared dead at the scene by local medical officials.
