When the engine started, the airplane jumped the chocks. The mechanic was unable to access or secure the engine controls or contain the airplane. The aircraft accelerated across the runway, colliding with trees. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, both wing's main spars were broken, wing lift struts damaged, and wooden propeller destroyed. There were no personal injuries.
