What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) The pilot (Mr. Arthur koester) took off from Winchester airport (okv) at approximately 1125. It was a clear day with very little wind. The runway was clear and dry. When he (Mr. Koester) retracted the landing gear he heard a loud mechanical bang and observed that the nose gear was indicating unsafe. He then notified Winchester inter-comm and flew by the airport and ground personnel confirmed that the nose gear was in trail. Several air maneuvers were tried to secure the nose gear down with no result. He then returned to Winchester airport and made an uneventful nose gear up landing. Minimal damage was done to the nose gear doors, fairings and nose. The right prop was damaged as it struck the runway.
