From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Thursday, June 28, 2001, N344GC, an Amd falcon 2000, experienced the separation of the lower number one engine cowling after departure from the Lincoln Municipal Airport. The aircraft while climbing through 10,000 feet MSL experienced an airframe shutter and the crew elected to return to the departure airport where an uneventful landing was made on runway 35L. Maintenance investigation revealed the forward lower cowling latch was closed and all indications were normal, however the latch hook had engaged on the aft side of the pin end outside of the fork, allowing the cowling to drop into the airstream. This fleet of aircraft has a history of incidents with the lower cowling coming open and the manufacturer has issued falcon 2000 service bulletin 133, revision 1, falcon service advisory 2000/54-20/03, falcon operator communique 07/02/01, and has falcon 2000 service bulletin 166, titled nacelles and pylons improvement to engine cowling attachments, pending. The number one engine ring cowl, upper and lower body cowl, primary fuel line, and starter exhaust duct, were removed and replaced, and the aircraft returned to service. A service difficulty report was submitted.
