From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot had been fluying about 20 min on a local flight, tanks were full at take off. Pilot set up for a power off stall at 2200 ft. about 2 miles south of kent island over eastern bay Maryland. While reducing power to idle he also placed the mixture control to idle cut off. Power was not available while performing the stall recovery which convinced him that he had an engine failure. After several attempts to restart the engine (mixture control remained in the cut off position) the pilot determined that a water landing was his only option. Pilot configured the airplane for a no flap landing in about 4 feet of water. After aircraft came to full stop it floated for about 2 min. Before aircraft settled on the main gear. The pilot waded to shore uninjured and called the FAA and the navy flying club office.
