From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 07/22/01, Mr. French was flying his aircraft from Ohio to new york under VFR rules. After refueling at marysville airport (I78), he had departed the airport for new york. Approximately 15 minutes later, the engine started losing power. Mr. French indicated that he checked his left/right mags, and turned on his carb heat for approximately 30 seconds. However, the aircraft engine continued to lose power. Mr. French saw a drag strip and decided to land there, and to leave his nose gear up. As he approached the drag strip, the fixed main landing gear caught electrical wires that were crossing the drag strip. Thus, the wires were severed. During the landing the aircraft bumped into the left and right railing along the side of the strip causing minor damage to the airframe. Mr. French was not injured. The following day, the fuel was tested for contamination and the engine was run up with no problems noted on either item. During the investigation it was revealed by Mr. French that the aircraft was out of it's annual inspection.
