From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 07-25-2001, Mr. Frame, a single engine commercial pilot, acting as pilot in command, departed the sierra sky park airport (Q60), Fresno, CA, at approximately 10:45 hours, with three passengers on board, for the woodlake airport (042), woodlake, CA, in N688X, a Cessna 172 aircraft. They arrived at 042 at about 11:30 hours and departed that locaiton around 12:45 hours on a return enroute back to Q60. At approximately 13:05 hours, the aircraft engine quit due to fuel exhaustion. Mr. Frame had attempted to use the aircraft fuel primer to keep the engine going and make it into the Fresno-chandler downtown airport (fch), Fresno, CA. Once the engine quit, Mr. Frame executed an off airport emergency landing into an open field some three and one-half miles southeast of fch. The aircraft was not damaged and neither the pilot nor his passengers suffered any injuries.
