What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) At approximately 0830 hours on 3 August 2001, N5433 a curtis travel air D4000 crashed while attempting a takeoff from a private grass strip. The pilot in command stated that he felt he was in error, in that, while executing the takeoff phase of flight, the pilot in command attempted flight prior to achieving the aerodynamic velocity required for flight. The aircraft attained approximately three feet of altitude, stalled and settled back to the terrain. This scenario was repeated approximately three intervals when the pilot in command elected to abort the takeoff. While executing the stopping phase of flight, the left wing tip brushed the adjoining vegetation; the pilot in command over reacted and inserted excessive right corrections. The pilot in command lost control of the aircraft, departed the airstrip to the right, impacted a livestock fence, continued through the fence impacting a livestock collection pen coming to rest imbedded within the corral structure. VFR weather was prevailing. No flight plan was filed.
