From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot states that the engine lost power while performing a field observation at approximately 75' AGL. Pilot executed an autorotation to a nearby soybean field and landed hard. Major damage to aircraft. No injuries to occupants on board (2). The aircraft had 20 gallons of fuel on board. No agriculture treatment products were on board at the time of the accident. Engine was run and appeared to function properly. Note--the mixture arm on the carburetor is wired (spring loaded) full rich as per AD 56-26-02. If carburetor ice was suspected by the pilot and if carburetor heat was introduced, this would super enrich the fuel/air mixture and possibly entertain a low power scenario. Weather at the time was--metar kowa (Owatona)0500015Z auto 16009KT 10SM clr 29/23 A2996.

As the FAA filed it
