From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) According to the pilot, he intended to land at fayetteville; however during an attempt to land the landing gear did not appear to be locked when viewed from the wing mirrors. The pilot trouble shot the landing gear system and noticed that the hydraulic resevoir was empty. The pilot's passenger put engine oil in the resevoir, and the pilot again attempted to lower the landing gear to no avail. The pilot elected to land the airplane at Fort Smith, AR, where the airport rescue/fire fighters was better staffed. The pilot landed the airplane with the nose landing gear extended and the main gear retracted. According to an aircraft mechanic, the airplane's horizontal stabilizer and elevator sustained substantial damage. The mechanic examined the landing gear system and found that the left landing gear actuator was busted.
