From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Saturday, August 11, 2001, at 1434 local time, a Canadair regional jet, N640BR, s/n 7340, operated by atlantic coast airlines (vtza) experienced an APU over-temp caution light in flight. The crew complied with the qrh and diverted to the Buffalo niagara international airport (buf) and landed on runway 23. The ARFF responded and the aircraft taxied to the ramp without incident. Maintenance personnel inspected the oil cooler and found it dirty. They also cleaned the APU over-temp sensor and did a ground operational check of the APU. The check was good and the aircraft was returned to service. This incident is considered closed.
