(-23) On August 18, 2001, the detroit flight standards district office was informed of an aircraft incident/accident involving a collision with a fuel truck in Mason, Michigan. The aircraft involved was N4987D, a Cessna 182A, serial number 51087. The aircraft is located on the ramp at aerogenesis aviation. According to the pilot, Mr. William l. kemp, as he taxied the aircraft over towards the terminal at Mason-Jewett airport, his attention was placed on the passengers that were awaiting his arrival. To his surprise, there was a fuel truck parked in an area that it is not normally placed. By the time that he had noticed the position of the fuel truck, the right wing tip of his aircraft has struck the truck's passenger side mirror. He added that he had been flying for many years and was quite embarassed about the whole event. On August 21, 2001, upon arriving at aerogenesis aviation, I was assisted by the director of maintenance, leslie ojala. Mr. Ojala informed me that his facility had not been tasked with evaluating the damage to the aircraft. He was unsure of what the owner's intentions were regarding an evaluation, however he did mention that the owner is a licensed airframe/powerplant mechanic and suspected that he would perform his own inspection. The visible damage was with the forward portion of the right wing, near the wing tip. The wing tip cover showed signs of being ripped off (rivets popped) along with the aileron being damaged. John powell, a mechanic for aerogenesis, was one of the witnesses on August 18th, and has provided a written statement of what he saw when the aircraft collided with the fuel truck. Mr. Powell has also provided twelve photographs which provides further details as to the damage that was sustained by the aircraft and the fuel truck. (See attached envelope).privacy data omitted
