From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot states he was approximately two hours into a planned three hour flight from kissmee FL to lawrenceville, GA when, shortly after switching fuel tanks, the engine began to lose power. Pilot initiated the electric fuel pump, changed fuel tanks again and checked both magnetos. The engine did not regain power, and the pilot declared an emergency with valdosta approach and requested vectors to the Homerville airport (hoe). The pilot stated that his manifold pressure was normal and the RPM did not surge. A glide speed of 87 knots was established. When the pilot realized he could not make the airport, he attempted to land in an open area. As he approached the area, he realized it was a prison compound and attempted to steer clear. He contacted power lines after clearing the prison and make an emergency landing in a field adjacent to a housing area approximately 1.5 miles south of the airport. The pilot and his passenger, his daughter, exited the aircraft with no injuries. A post-impact engine fire was extinguished by the local fire department.

As the FAA filed it
