From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Mr. Miguel chabolla was piloting N847R, a BE-35-A33, s/n CD-261 on August 28, 2001 at approximately 1730 local time. Mr. Chabolla states that he had lowered his landing gear during his approach into Oceano airport (L52) but had difficulty locating the airport so he decided to go around. He added power and raised the landing gear and started a left turn. He then received a transmission stating that if they fly over the mesa and head for the mobile home park, they will be lined up for the runway. Mr. Chabolla acquired the mesa and the trailer park over his left shoulder and began a left turn toward the trailer park. Mr. Chabolla then states that he thought he had lowered the gear during the turn but his attention was drawn to find a helicopter making a traffic call. He also states that he continued his approach and quickly scanned the panel which did not reveal a red gear up light nor did he hear the gear warning horn sound. During the flare he heard scraping and looked at the gear switch and found it up. Mr. Chabolla elected to finish the landing and closed the throttle and mixture. **a copy of this report will be forwarded to the operations unit for further evaluation.** (-23 amendment) the operations investigation was completed with counseling. Mr. Chabolla showed a positive attitude and a heightened awareness of priorities.
