From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Igl 1920010032 - the aircraft landing gear collapsed shortly after touchdown on runway 27 at Lawrenceville-Vincennes airport, Lawrenceville, IL. The mechanic who recovered the aircraft stated the emergency gear extension handle appeared to have been unstowed and spinning when the gear was extended. Frayed carpet strings wrapped around the spinning handle, preventing further movement of the handle and causing the landing gear motor circuit breaker to pop before the gear was fully extended and locked down. The pilot in command stated that he had been practicing touch and go landings and this was the third landing. He stated he had visually confirmed the gear was extended by using a mirror attached to the wing, but could not remember if he verified the gear was down and locked by use of the landing gear indicator lights in the cockpit. He further stated he believes a passenger in the rear of the aircraft inadvertently kicked the emergency extension handle causing it to become unstowed. This incident is closed with this report.

As the FAA filed it
