From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Mr. Loughlin was receiving flight training for a commercial pilot certificate from Mr. Weaver on 09/23/2001. They had been doing short and soft field takeoffs and landings at Newnan airport, when on down wind they reduced the power and the engine rpms remained up around 1700 and slowly decreased. The airplane was in the clean configuration and they were fast at the time. Since the rpms did not reduce like normal both pilots focused on the engine and forgot to put the landing gear down. The engine ran normal at the time of the investigation and minor damage was done to the airplane.
