From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 25 September 2001, at 1600 hours, owner/operator Mr. John langen gurke (certificate #2487007), operating a Grumman American AA-5 traveller (registration #N7126L) experienced a prop strike on takeoff from runway 17L of the Grayson County Airport (F39) Texas. Upon takeoff attempt, Mr. Gurke was unable to obtain full elevator authority. Aircraft began a rapid porpoise for approximately 3 cycles, one of which resulted in the propeller contacting the runway surface. Pilot was able to gain control of the aircraft without further incident. Upon examination of the potential problem area, it was noted that the control column was restricted from full aft movement by a clamp which was securing the throttle and mixture control cables. The aircraft was on its maintenance check flight after receiving an annual inspection where a new mixture control cable had been installed. The mechanic reportedly installed the cable in the same manner as the previous one had been installed without consulting the manufacturer's installation manual. There were no injuries. Damage was limited to the propeller only.
