From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed fish river lake for shin pond to refuel. Approximately 20 miles south at 3000' MSL the engine quit. Pilot attempted to restart the engine and it would not start. The pilot attempted to land on the machias river but saw that he would not make the river so turned towards a field and crashed into the trees approximately 1000 feet north of the river short of the field he was attempting to land in. It was determined that the cause of engine failure was fuel exhaustion.
