From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On October 13, 2001, at approximately 15:30 pm it was observed by two Reid Hillview airport operation workers (ken boone, and ernie parker) that the subject aircraft, a Mooney M-20 N2796W was attempting to make a landing on runway 31R. They noted that the aircraft was coming in at a high rate of speed for the attempted landing. The aircraft porpoised while attempting to land. The pilot applied the brakes but the aircraft was traveling too fast and veered left toward the grass north of taxi was "e". The aircraft's right main landing gear collapsed, the right tire blew out, the nose gear collapsed, and the propeller was damaged when it struck the ground. There were no injuries sustained during this incident, and the aircraft was later removed by airport ground personnel. A statement made to this office by the pilot of the aircraft, Mr. Shawn c. o'donnell, certificated number 550779981, stated that when the aircraft made its initial touchdown the nosewheel had an unusual violent vibration. At this point the aircraft started to porpoise down the runway as he attempted to go.
