(-23) According to the pilot and passenger they were attending a wings training seminar at goldsboro, NC. At about 9 am they departed goldsboro airport (gww), for a 3 hour instructional flight. They went into rock mt. (rwi) to do ILS approaches and then landed at rwi for a rest. They departed rwi after about 45 minutes on the ground. At 1120 and at 1500 ft into the climb the engine quit, it went to an idle. The PIC reported all gauges went to zero. The PIC switched fuel tanks, checked mags, checked fuel pumps, checked throttle and prop mixture but no response. At this point the PIC had to concentrate on landing the aircraft. An open field was found north of the airport. The PIC landed the aircraft with gear up, doing minor damage to the belly skin, propeller damage, and the right wing tip was damaged. No injuries. The aircraft was transported to precision air, in manning, SC. Attached is the pilot statement and the passenger statement (instructor).
