From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During the third landing on the student's first solo flight the aircraft landing on the main gear then began porpoising. The porpoising stopped when the aircraft hit the nose wheel which then broke off the strut. Following the nose wheel breaking off, the prop struck the runway causing a sudden engine stoppage and damaged prop. There was additional damage to the lower engine cowling, engine mount, and lower fuselage. The pilot's statement indicated that during the porpoising she was holding aft elevator control but did not apply power or attempt to go around.
