From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 11/08/01, American champion, N68ND, owned by the university of norht dakota and flown by joseph sirany, received minor damage upon landing on runway 26 at Grand Forks, ND. The flight instructor and student had returned from an instructional flight during which time the student had mistakenly applied the parking brake instead of the cabin heat control which are similar controls in the same area of the cockpit. At touchdown the aircraft skidded 200 feet and came to rest on the main gear and engine cowling. Minor damage was sustained to the cowling and propeller. Investigation revealed the parking brake was on. No injuries were reported by the crew.
