From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The aircraft departed Trenton Robbinsville airport taking-off from runway 11. During climb smoke filled the crew compartment, the flight instructor shut off the fuel valve. He then proceeded to perform an emergency landing over an open field. After landing inspection of the aircraft revealed the turbo charger pipe retainer clamp was cracked and rusted. The damage to the clamp caused fire damage to the crew compartment defroster hose, heater hose, turbo charger oil line, engine oil lines and wire harness bundles at the firewall area. There was also damage to the replaceable plastic wing tip.
