From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The PIC, bruce barnes armstrong had taken off from the charlotte county airport (punta gorda-pgd) at 09:40 on sat. 12/01/01. Accompanying the PIC was a friend von e. thayer. They were flying around the charlotte harbor and were enroute back to the airport at 1,300 feet when the engine quit. The PIC was unsuccessful in an attempt to restart the engine, and realizing that he couldn't make the airport, he elected to make an emergency landing in a vacant field. With the mono wheel landing gear retracted, he landed in a field off of del prado resulting in one blade of the 3 bladed composite prop. Breaking off and some minor belly scratches. It is noted that this particular lg in the retracted postion has the single main wheel extended approximately 3 inches and the outriggers are retracted. Neither occupant was injured and walked away from the aircraft. This aircraft started it's flight with a full tank (17 gals) of automotive gasoline. The engine is a 4 cycle powerplant with a normal fuel consumption of 5 gals./hr - fuel on board landing was between 14-15 gals. The aircraft was taken back to the owners hanger at the charlotte county airport. The accident was investigated on site by the sheriff's department.
