From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot reported to the ric ATCT and that the left engine failed in flight, and his attempt to restart the engine was unsuccessful. The pilot secured the left engine, and the ric ATCT advised the pilot that the Tappahannock Municipal Airport (W79) was the nearest available airport for an emergency landing. The pilot made a normal approach to (W79) runway 2 (airspeed approx. 115 mph). The pilot encountered a heavy crosswind (approx. 90 degrees) on his approach. The left wing tip struck the runway. The left main gear collapsed, followed by the nose gear and the right main gear. The airplane slid on its belly and came to rest in the grass adjacent to the left edge of runway 02. Prior to exiting the aircraft, the pilot reported that he turned off the fuel selectors, the magneto switches and the master switches. The pilot and two passengers exited the aircraft. No injuries or fire were reported.
