From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot stated that they were on an IFR flight plan from (tpa) tampa, FL to (jka) gulf shores, AL and were cleared to pensi intersection then direct jka. Mr. Shappee stated that pensacola approach called the airport @ 12:00 and 7 or 11 miles, he was not sure which. He stated that they reported the airport in sight; however, both pilots saw wolf field, the wrong airport, and not jka. Both gulf shores and navy wolf olf are on nearly the same course from pensi intersection 9 miles apart. Gulf shores and wolf are approximately the same distance from the coast line and have very similar runway layout, however wolf field is not depicted on the IFR enroute low altitude chart which Mr. Shappee stated they were using at the time. Mr. Shappee stated that the aircraft has full EFIS with a flight management systems and they were utilizing the GPS until they reported the airport in sight and began a visual approach while accomplishing their before landing check list. He stated everything was normal as they landed on runway 27, however they landed at the wrong airport and were unable to stop before rolling off the end of the shorter runway. The aircraft was tugged back onto the runway with no damage.
