From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Helicopter student pilot (holding a fixed wing private pilot license) taking off from platform experienced abrupt right yaw upon pulling on collective. As aircraft became airborne, pilot attempted to compensate rotation with pedals but was unsuccessful. Pilot veered helicopter away from the platform and tried to land at the same time that reduced RPM to compensate for torque. Helicopter landed hard while spinning suffering dynamic roll-over breaking left-side landing skid tipping to its left and hitting both main and tail rotor blades into the ground. Pilot evacuated aircraft uninjured.
