What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Wyfg (nw helicopters UH-1H (N116DR) crashed on 03-08-2002 at about 1500 hours. The pilot experienced an engine shutdown during 137 operations and auto-rotated to a hard landing. The aircraft was returning to its departure point for fuel. The aircraft was removed from the crash site and placed into storage at the operator's facility pending investigation. Investigation revealed that the aircraft had sufficient fuel to return to the departure point so a mechanical irregularity is suspect as the cause of the engine shutdown. It is decided by the ntsb-iic to remove the fuel control unit and route it for teardown inspection. Further investigation is held pending the results.
