From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The flight originated from marietta, ga (ryy) with an enroute stop at ozark, al (71J), with a final destination at Panama City, FL (pfn). Mishap pilot Mr. Matthew smith stated weather for landing at pfn was clear (VFR). He stated upon touchdown on runway 14, the aircraft veered to the left, as he attempted to correct, the aircraft ballooned. At this point the pilot attempted a go-around but was unable to control the left veer. The go-around attempt was aborted. The aircraft continued to veer left and departed the runway. Upon departing the runway the aircraft struck a directional sign and caused damage to the left elevator tip, and dented the aircraft skin aft of the left side firewall and behind the left door post. The left wheel assembly broke and separated from the aircraft, at the gear leg axle area, during landing. There were no visible gouges in the runway surface or scrubbing of the broken strut. The aircraft stopped approximately 500 yards from touchdown point and 40 feet to the left of runway 14.
