From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) While enroute from laredo, Texas, to louisville, Kentucky, on 05-15-02 (operator eastern time date was 05/16/02), the left engine started backfiring with some loss of power. Power was reduced to that engine and checklist procedures were followed to correct the problem. The condition continued and a decision was made to land at Shreveport, Louisiana, for further examination. Power was reduced to the left engine and control of the aircraft became abnormal, resulting in aileron control difficulty. The pilot reported that the left aileron control cable had failed, causing the lack of control. An emergency was declared and control of the aircraft stabilized, followed by a normal landing. After landing, a fire was detected in the #1 engine and extinguished by airport equipment. The fire was contained to the carburetor area of the engine. Aircraft was taxied to parking area under #2 engine power. All facts will be amended as soon as operator provides the information.
