From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Preflight normal, tanks half full, OAT 75-80 degrees, clear, sunny day, no wind. Takeoff normal, 10 minute flight around Fowlerville, MI, then turned for normal approach and landing, flaps set at 30. Touchdown at 1/3 down runway. Plane ballooned, porpoised. Pilot reacted by placing flaps up. Aircraft lost altitude and second touchdown was rough. Plane continued to porpoise, deviated left of center line and did not slow. Pilot added power to go around. Left side of tail hit a runway marker cone, followed by right side tail hitting a marker cone at the end of the runway. The pilot lost control of the plane, touched down once in a bean field, pulled off power, and touched down again. The nose strut folded and broke. The airplane skidded to a stop. No one was injured.
