From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) privacy data omitted airman stated that he departed merrill field, AK enroute to Northway, AK. He made an enroute stop at gulkana, AK. For physiological purposes. While on the ground at gulkana he evaluated his fuel supply and decided that the aircraft contained adequate fuel to complete the leg to Northway. At approximately 1100 hours local time the engine coughed. He applied carb heat and the engine again ran smoothly. He checked his fuel gauge at that time and it appeared that the tanks still contained three to four gallons of fuel. In approximately 5 miles the engine stopped and he landed on a gravel bar where one of the main gear wheels ran through a depression and caused it to collapse, followed by a wing tip strike. Pilot stated that the damage to the aircraft is minor. He stated that he stuck the tanks and detected no fuel. The airman has very limited (approximately 30 hours) experience operating light, reciprocating engine powered aircraft. He stated that he did not lean the fuel air mixture, thereby increasing the fuel consumption. privacy data omitted
