From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 07/27/02 an experimental amateur built (glass goose) operated by barry lee cohen (certificate no. 526649063) made an uneventful emergency landing, on a rural road approximately one hour after departing the salina municipal airport, (salina, KS). The pilot discovered contamination in the fuel filter and coalator. After removing the contamination the pilot performed power runups and continued his flight. Approximately five minutes after take-off the engine lost fuel pressure and the pilot again made an uneventful emergency landing in a plowed field. The pilot arranged for the aircraft to be transported to liberal, KS via a trailer. After an extensive inspection of the fuel system the pilot found the r/h wing tank contaminated with a plastic particle like material. The fuel tank and system were thoroughly cleanded and fuel filters were installed in each fuel line from the wing tank. The pilot departed the liberal, KS airport and continued his flight uneventful. The source of the fuel contamination has not been determined at this time.
