From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 31, at 1100 central daylight time, N29FJ, a pitts S-1D experimental aircraft piloted by steven jackovitch, a commercial pilot, was involved in an off-airport accident. During the performance of aerobatic maneuvers, the pilot pulled the aircraft to a steep departure stall configuration. At approximately 2000 feet AGL, and just prior to stalling the aircraft, the pilot rapidly reduced power to the idle stop setting. The engine quit as the aircraft slipped backwards and an unsuccessful airstart was attempted during stall recovery. An off-airport landing was attempted in a soybean field. The lower wing contacted the soybeans, the aircraft nosed over with the prop and prop spinner contacting the ground. The aircraft somersaulted approximately 50 feet before the tail section and top right wing struck the ground. The aircraft then flipped over striking the lower left wing and landing gear. Substantial damage resulted to the tail section, lower left wing, and the upper right wing. The prop, prop spinner, engine crankshaft, and the landing gear sustained minor damage. The aircraft had approximately 8 gallons of useable fuel remaining in the tank.
