From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) According to PIC, after takeoff from Corvallis at 2000' and 3 miles, engine lost power and went to idle. Pilot did a 180 degree turn and attempted a return to the Corvallis airport for landing on rwy 17. On short final at approx 300' the engine quit completely. Pilot decided he could no longer make the airport runway and chose to land in a mowed field coming to a stop approximately 100 ft outside of the airport fence. No damage to the aircraft, maintenance could not duplicate the problem during ground runs and test flight.
