From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N28665 departed unv on an IFR flight plan with a destination of thv. Approximately 15 minutes after takeoff, the pilot stated that the engine was running rough. The engine roughness increased and then #3 cylinder blew off the engine. The pilot declared an emergency to new york center and was in the process of being vectored back to unv when the engine lost oil pressure. The pilot knew that he could not get back to unv and elected to land on interstate 99, a closed highway. There was no damage to the aircraft from the forced landing and there were no injuries to the pilot nor passengers. Submission of a malfunction defect report will close this report.
