From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) This event occurred more than two weeks prior to FSDO notification. Notification came in from a party not associated with the event and was unsubstantiated, prompting a letter of inquiry to the registered aircraft owner about the matter. All correspondence subsequently was through the registered owner's lawyer. After determining that the aircraft was actually involved in a reportable event, a request was then made to gain access to the aircraft and was ultimately coordinated for 12-06-2002. An inspection of the aircraft was conducted on that date, at which time it was determined that the damage was substantial and an accident had in fact occurred. NTSB was notified on 12-06-2002. Statements from the pilots indicate that during practice of wheel landings in the Waco UPF7, on runway 30 at owa, the front seat pilot bounced on landing and initiated go-around. Aircraft then sank to runway and veered left, at which time the back seat pilot got on controls, but aircraft continued to left off the runway, struck a ditch and overturned. Neither pilot was injured. Aircraft sustained damage to propeller, landing gear, lower left wing - outboard 3 foot section and engine mount.
