From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On the night of November 7, 2002 at 1700 CST, a Piper PA-30 twin commanche - N7349Y, lost electrical power while on approach to Panama City airport (pfn). The aircraft landed on runway 32, and the landing gear collapsed. The pilot and three passengers received no injuries and the aircraft incurred minor damage. The flight originated in columbia south carolina (cae). The control tower was notified of the electrical failure by a crew member with a hand held radio. The control tower confirmed that the aircraft was cleared to land. The pilot heard the landing gear go down, and he saw a faint green indicator light, and further confirmed the position of the gear with a mirror. Once on final for landing, the main gear touched down normal, and then a brisk and loud crashing sound was heard. The gear collapsed and the aircraft slid for four thousand fee. The main gear buckled under the aircraft, damaging the landing gear, propeller, engine, and minor damage to the belly of the aircraft.
