From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed on rwy 17R at dwh. Pilot stated he attained approximately 1500 feet before he lost power and glided to a landing in a field southeast of the departure end of the airport. Minor damage was done to the aircraft. Pilot stated the cause of the power loss may have been an improperly installed fuel vent. The fuel vent was not secured by a fixed bracket. This may have caused the fuel vent probe to turn in the slip stream which could have resulted in a fuel starvation to the engine. The fuel vent has been secured with a fixed bracket. Owner was instructed to submit a malfunction or defect report. No further investigation is necessary.
