What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) On December 15, 2002 at approximately 1145 local time Mr. Iman shareef (private pilot single engine land, cert. # 128542965) rented N9900Q, from kitze aviation @ Canton/Plymouth Mettetal airport (1D2). Upon doing his preflight attempting to start this aircraft (a/c), the starter turned, however the bendix did not engage (no squawk slip made by pilot). The owner Douglas kitze performed maintenance by turning the propeller by hand and lubricating the starter bendix (no logbook entry made). Now the starter engaged and the engine started, so Mr. Shareef finished his pre-flight and run-up with no other problems. At 1230 local time N9900Q took off from runway 18 @ 1D2 flew the pattern and landed runway 18 noticing a longer ground roll than usual. Mr. Shareef then took off again from runway 18. The wind direction was changing so the pilot elected to fly the pattern and setup for a runway 36 landing, this approach was not good as Mr. Shareef felt he was too high so he did a go-around. During this flight maneuver he felt as if the engine was sluggish. He at this point declared an emergency on UNICOM freq. 112.70 and entered immediately into a left turn for a downwind landing runway 36. On final, pilot lost all electrical power, selecting 10 degrees flaps, the flaps did not respond. He continued to land a/c with no flaps. Mr. Shareef touched down at halfway point on 36, which total length is 2294 feet. Pilot was unable to stop this a/c in time going across a public road (joy road) by approximately 100 feet when the aircraft came to rest. After inspecting the a/c it was found to have an improper electrical terminal lug on the main charging (out put) wire. The wire moved loosely in the lug and fell out of the terminal lug upon alternator removal thus not charging the system properly (battery). Additionally, the electrical terminal was not crimped correctly and did not appear to be of aviation quality.
As the FAA filed it
(-23) ON DECEMBER 15, 2002 AT APPROXIMATELY 1145 LOCAL TIME MR.
