From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On December 29, 2002, aircraft departed clay county regional airport (gph), mosby, Missouri, enroute to jabara airport (aao), wichita, Kansas. Pilot reported that approximately 35 minutes after departure from gph he noticed a zero indication on the oil pressure gauge with the engine "running smooth". Pilot believed that the gauge was "faulty", but made a decision to initiate an emergency landing at lawrence municipal airport (lwc), lawrence, Kansas. Shortly after the decision to land at lwc, the engine began to "lose power" and an off airport site was selected. As the aircraft slowed to 90 mph the engine "quit" and a power off landing was accomplished in a field approximately 4 miles northeast of Tonganoxie, Kansas. There was no damage to aircraft or property, and the pilot and passenger were not injured. The lower fuselage skin, aft of the engine cowl, exhibited oil trails originating from the engine oil breather. Engine inspection by precision engine, owensboro, Kentucky, revealed broken piston rings in each of the four engine cylinders. This incident, privacy data omitted is considered closed.
