From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 1/12/03, at about 2115 HST, hawaiian airlines flight #197, a Boeing 717-200, N482HA, rolled unexpectedly to the left during climb to cruise after departure from Kahului Airport (ogg), maui, HI. Both pilots, 3 flight attendants and 82 passengers were not injured. The airplane was not damaged. The flight departed ogg as a nonstop to hnl. Night VMC conditions prevailed and an IFR flight plan had been filed. According to hawaiian airlines safety bulletin # 02-03 dated 02-07-03, the captain (pf) noted the "feel" of the aircraft seemed unusual on takeoff and he felt the aircraft was not "tracking" normally. Closing action by hawaiian airlines was to issue a safety bulletin (02-03) to all B717 pilots to remind them to crosscheck aileron trim carefully during each takeoff briefing as required by their before start checklist. The aileron control unit (atcu) and aileron/rudder trim control module (artcm) were bench tested by authorized repair stations including testing of bonding, insulation resistance, dieletric strength, lighting etc. With no faults found. Boeing also operationally tested these modules on a production line B717 successfully and were unable to induce a failure.

As the FAA filed it
