From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Subject aircraft departed clearwater, FL at 2127Z bound for Morristown, TN after filing an IFR flight plan. Pilot stated that after passing snowbird vof inbound for mor at 8100' the aircraft started to pick up light rime ice. After the aircraft descended to 5100', the pilot observed clear ice developing. The pilot continued his descent and realized that he could not stop his 500'/MIN sink rate. He did not lower his landing gear or extend the flaps in an attempt to keep his airspeed up in hopes of reaching the runway. The aircraft impacted the ground at a shallow angle approximately 1 mile short of runway 5 and skidded for approximately 200 yards before impacting a tree with the left wing, then impacting a brick plant entrance sign, where it came to rest. The pilot was able to climb out of the wreckage and assist the passenger seated in the rear of the aircraft to safety. The passenger in the copilot's seat was more seriously injured and was not removed from wreckage until EMS personnel arrived. The aircraft was not destroyed.
