From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N9493N, a PA28, diverted and landed on runway 28 at (agc) 1024E due to an engine problem. The ARFF responded and the aircraft taxied to the ramp without incident. Further investigation revealed that the pilot had encountered icing conditions causing the induction system to ice over. The pilot selected the alternate air source and was able to restart the engine. Kenneth scheller, from pittsburgh flight training center, performed the maintenance. Mr. Scheller stated that the induction filter was covered with ice and was the cause of the engine failure. The filter was thawed and dried then reinstalled in the airplane. The engine was run and no further defects were found. Submission of this report closes this incident.
