From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) During the transition phase from subsonic to supersonic, the flight crew described what they considered as a "bump". The flight crew had no indication that a problem existed, therefore, an emergency was not declared. It wasn't until a landing was made at john f. kennedy international airport (kjfk) that a portion of the lower rudder was noticed to be missing. This observation was made by personnel outside the aircraft. A large portion of the lower rudder was missing and is presumed to have departed when the "bump" was noticed. The landing at kjfk was made without incident. Injury summary not known by ASI.
